The Fictionals and Distress Signal join forces for Improv X Sketch on June 26 at Cafe Deux Soleils

Comedy worlds combine on June 26 when The Fictionals and Distress Signal team up for Hot Improv Tuesdays at Cafe Deux Soleils! The two companies will showcase their individual talents, then team-up for an Improv X Sketch form!

Distress Signal Comedy

Distress Signal was created from the weird zany mind of Connor Nechelput and the upright posture of Kenneth Tynan. Their follow-up to their debut show, “Our Mortal Coil”, explores the future with Future Sex, Cyborgs, & Science. Their brand of comedy will keep you guessing and guarantees a good time for all!

Juliana de Medeiros

Juliana has been acting since the age of six, in both her home country of Brazil, and in Canada. A lover of the stage, Juliana graduated from the John Abbott College Professional Theatre Program in Montreal. Her past roles include Hermia/Snout/Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Nava in the PK Studio Productions short Pass the Salt. When she ain’t sick, she’s crying over puppies.

Travis is a local actor, writer and producer from Richmond. He’s been a part of some great productions, such as Psychopomp & Circumstance and Like Psycho Like Son. Currently he’s in the process of producing short films, but he hopes to make you laugh as much as his parents did when he told them he wanted to be an actor.

Ricardo was born a rolling stone. In the evenings he’d cry mama in improv classes in high school – which made for some bohemian rhapsodys. One time he and his graduating Class of improvers went to second city Toronto to take some classes and watch a second city show. Ricardo used to lead multiple improv games in kids camps, practice improv in Prairie Theatre exchange and lastly did some improv exercises in Vancouver Film School.

Comedian. Actor. Sweet love maker. His journey of laughter brought him from Montreal to Vancouver. Vancouver to Vegas, and back again. He has represented Montreal at the Just for Laughs Homegrown Stand Up Comedy Competition as well as featured in Vancouver filmed television shows such as “Altered Carbon” and “Green Berets Guide to Surviving the Apocalypse.” As many other successful Canadian humorists, Kwasi lives below a Quiznos on 4th and Main. “It’s rent controlled, and I get all the sesame seeds they don’t use”.

A proud graduate of UBC’s Creative Writing Program, Annahis now pursues a Master’s of Creative Writing at the University of Edinburgh. Her work has been featured in the Commerce Community Program’s Murder Mystery Musical (Psychopomp & Circumstance, 2016) the Cold Reading Series’ 4×3 Festival (Kidnappees, 2017), The Vancouver Fringe Festival 2017 (Rockefeller Evening, 2017) and Distress Signal (Our Mortal Coil, 2018). She enjoys long walks by herself and perpetually staring at blank word documents deep into the night.

Onstage for The Fictionals will be Alan Pavlakovic, Rachel Kent, Tunji Taylor-Lewis, Alex Gullason and Travis Bernhardt! Come laugh the night away with us on June 26 at Cafe Deux Soleils! Doors at 7:30 pm, action starts at 8 pm. Tickets just $7 or $5 for students.

Comedy worlds collide on July 25 when The Fictionals and White Noise team up for Improv X Sketch! The two troupes will showcase their individual skills, then combine for a Best of Both Worlds form at Cafe Deux Soleils!

White Noise 1

White Noise began as a long running radio sketch show on CITR 101.9 Fm Vancouver. In 2016 it transitioned to the stage, performing at Havana Theatre, University of British Columbia, and the IGNITE Youth Festival. The troupe mixes satire and absurdism with dark comedy to create a fast paced and engaging stage show!

Nick Rinke: Nick’s love for acting started when he was 15 and since then he has acted in many theatre shows around Vancouver. He is currently taking courses at On The Mic training to further his voice acting career.

Conner Nechelput: An aspiring writer, actor, producer, and one of the longest serving White Noise members. Connor is always looking to laugh and discover life’s absurdity, and his ambition is to challenge people to see the world differently through satire and comedy.

Kenneth Tynan: Kenneth has been performing with the White Noise sketch comedy group for over a year and he’s very pleased to be their current ethnic representative (being half Chinese.) Kenneth will be appearing in the 2017 Vancouver Fringe Festival and Red Window Theatre’s premiere performance in September.
