Impro Allegro is back at Cafe Deux Soleils on October 22 for a Musical Comedy Mashup! Our special guest this month is the talented Tall Mark!
First there was Tiny Tim, then there was Weird Al, and now… Tall Mark! He walks the line; he pushes the envelope; he rhombuses the squares; he’s the bee’s knees; the cat’s pajamas; the chef’s surprise; the soup du jour; the best of both worlds (the Hannah Montana); the blessing in disguise; the best thing since sliced bread; he is rocket science! He’s a piece of cake; he’s a different kettle of fish; he’s a short story long; he’s Tall Mark!
Come learn more about the enigma that is Tall Mark! We’ll play some classic musical improv games, plus hear some Tall Mark parodies! Doors to Hot Improv Tuesdays at Cafe Deux Soleils are at 7:30 pm, show starts at 8 pm! Tickets are just $7 or $5 for students!
Our monthly comedy mashup returns to Cafe Deux Soleils on Tuesday, September 24 with an annual celebration of some of the city’s finest arts festivals: Vancouver Fringe and Vancouver Writers Festival.
The first half of Improv X will feature short form games inspired by theatre genres and the recent Vancouver Fringe. The second half is a montage of scenes inspired by the upcoming Vancouver Writers Fest and their official Festival Reading List!
Come kick off the Fall with a night of funny! Doors at 7:30 pm, show at 8 pm, and tickets are $7 or $5 for students! See you there!
The worlds of Comedy and Literature collide when The Fictionals and Vancouver Writers Fest team up for two shows on Granville Island on Wednesday, October 23! Come to one or both and see us share the stage with some of Canada’s acclaimed authors!
Watch new stories unfold in front of your eyes as three warm, imaginative YA authors team up with improv comedy group The Fictionals. Audience members will enjoy readings from Aviaq Johnston’s adventure story based on Indigenous mythology, Those Who Dwell Below, spoken word poems from Taran Kootenhayoo, and anecdotes from Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me author, Mariko Tamaki. Then, The Fictionals will create brand new stories for students to enjoy—all the while learning how to use their imagination in new and powerful ways to create ideas right on the spot!
A creative, side-splitting mashup of books and comedy. Known for their hilarity, Tanya Boteju (Kings, Queens and In- Betweens), Dina Del Bucchia (It’s a Big Deal!) and Andrew Kaufman (The Ticking Heart) will read from their latest works before improv comedy group The Fictionals create a skit inspired by each story. Then, enjoy a reading from Retail Nightmares host Alicia Tobin’s So You’re A Little Sad, So What? before an unscripted, long-form comedy jam sure to keep you roaring.
Presented in partnership with the Master of Publishing (MPub) program at SFU.
