Pop-Up Comedy Jam features Amber Harper-Young on February 7 at Cafe Deux Soleils

Pop-Up Comedy Jam returns on February 7 for our Improv and Stand-Up mashup! Joining us onstage at Cafe Deux Soleils this month is the talented Amber Harper-Young!

Amber Harper-Young studied and performed comedy in Toronto with various theatres and troupes, and is a graduate of Second City’s Conservatory Program. She was nominated for the Tim Sims Award in 2010 for Stand-Up and was a finalist in BC’s Funniest Female competition in 2014. Her performing highlights include EuroTrash in Melbourne and the Del Close Marathon in New York.

Amber is a nationally-touring Yuk Yuks comedian and co-hosts Vancouverite, a monthly show being featured at JFL NorthWest on February 18. Her absurd colourful style of self-deprecating comedy is based on her upbringing and adult life.

Writing Prompts: Three-Line Stories inspired by Reddit

Reddit is one of the world’s most popular websites. With over 8 billion monthly page views, and over 25 million daily votes, Reddit has a become a community where anyone can find anything. Celebrity AMAs, photography tips, even debates about the Nintendo Switch.

One of our favourite subreddits is r/writingprompts, where writers go for motivation to create new stories. As our monthly R/Improv show is coming up on Tuesday, January 17 at Cafe Deux Soleils, we thought we’d take a hand at writing some short stories inspired by recent prompts. Check them out below!

“You got fired from your job, your dog ran away, and you have four flat tires! How do you stay so relaxed?!?!”

“I got Cool Ranch put in.”

“Ahhh. I got Flamas by accident.”

“Yes, I remember. I’m ready, but I’m scared.”

“I am too, but the fate of the world depends on us.”

“Okay. Time to finally watch Norbit.”

“And that comes to $47.96.”

“Oh, I almost forgot. Can I get also get a box of Trojans?”

“It has begun. Quickly, to the Red Bull Reservoir.”

“Supreme Leader, the Red Bull clouds have not burst in years. The reservoir is dry.”

“May god have mercy on our souls.”

“Please tell me that you backed up to the cloud.”

“But… they wanted $10 a month…”

“Time to turn the universe off and on again.”

“Doublemint Gum?”

“Double your pleasure, double your fun.”

“Alright, get out of here.”
