Poetry and Comedy take over Cafe Deux Soleils on May 29 with Improv X Poetry aka Words In Motion! We’re excited to perform with special guests Duncan Shields, RC Weslowski, and Angelica Poversky!

Duncan Shields is a two-time Vancouver Haiku Champion, the winner of the 2010 IWPS Haiku Championship, a two-time Vancouver Nerd Slam Champion, a competitor in the final CBC Poetry Face Off, member of the 2013 and 2014 Vancouver Poetry Slam teams, and the only poet to complete the Century Challenge twice. He was the Vancouver poetry Slam Master for four and a half years and he originated and maintained the Vancouver Poetry Slam YouTube channel. He has blue eyes, is a libra, likes bland burritos and he’s happy to be here.

Angelica Poversky

Angelica Poversky

Angelica Poversky is a spoken word poet, media and performing artist, and an arts programmer residing in Vancouver, British Columbia. Her work deals with exploring what it means to be human, imagination and the slipperiness of reality. Angelica has been named to Vancouver’s Top 24 under 24, a TD Scholar, Richmond’s 30 under 30 and a Richmond Arts Award Winner.

Her performance poetry has propelled her to perform at the 2017 UN Peacekeeping Defense Ministerial, National Culture Days and The Top 25 under 25 Canadian Environmentalists Awards, CHIMO Voices against Violence Against Women Conference and over many other events and festivals. Other notable performances include Word Vancouver, The Vancouver Sustainability Conference and The Vancouver Earth Day Parade.

RC Weslowski

RC Weslowski is the 2016 Sheri-D Wilson Golden Beret award winner for excellence and innovation in spoken word. He’s a 2 time World Cup of Poetry Slam Finalist, A Canadian Individual Poetry Slam Champion,  A Canadian Festival of Spoken Word Haiku Champion, A CFSW Underground Indie Champion, A CFSW Team Slam Champion, an NPS Haiku Death Match Runner Up, an NPS Team Slam Finalist and COACH of the 2014 Vancouver Youth Slam Team national champions.

RC is also a spoken word workshop facilitator and has been part of the faculty at the Banff Centre Spoken Word Program and led workshops at the Tucson Poetry Festival, Winnipeg Spoken Word Festival, The Victoria Spoken Word Festival, The Canadian Festival of Spoken Word and Hullabaloo: The BC Youth Poetry Slam Championships. He is the founder of Mashed Poetics-A night of Spoken Word and Music Mash Up as well as the creator of two one-person theatre shows: 2011’s The Wet Dream Catcher and 2013’s The Cruelest Phone Book in the World.
