Rio Theatre host Mad Max Aussie Bushfire Relief fundraiser on January 25

The Rio Theatre is hosting a massive Mad Max Movie Marathon on Saturday, January 25 to benefit Aussie Bushfire Relief. We’re honoured to help with comedy for a cause, and invite you to come support as well!

The Rio will be screening all four of George Miller’s post-apocalyptic classics – MAD MAX, THE ROAD WARRIOR, BEYOND THUNDERDOME and FURY ROAD. Come to one or come to all four back-to-back, on the big screen. Daniel Chai will be hosting the festivities, which include trivia, raffles, door prizes. There will also be a 50/50 draw, a costume contest, and, special guests throughout the day and evening. Plus you can win tickets to Hot Improv Tuesdays!

Doors are at 3:30 pm, with Mad Max slated to start at 4:30 pm. The Road Warrior is estimated to start at 6:30 pm. Then Beyond Thunderdome will begin around 8:30 pm. Finally, Fury Road will wrap things up starting at 10:45 pm

The event will celebrate Australia Day (January 26), plus funds raised will directly benefit the important work being done by the Australian Red Cross. So invite your friends and come join the fun! Advanced tickets and VIP Packages are on sale now!

The Fictionals perform 3 shows at Fan Expo Vancouver in February

Fan Expo Vancouver returns to Vancouver Convention Centre from Feburary 15 to 17, 2020, and The Fictionals will be there with three super-powered comedy shows for the attendees!

Join us for Improv Against Humanity on Saturday, February 15 at 6 pm in Theatre #2. The next day you can catch Halftime Hilarity during the Cosplay Craftsmanship Contest in the Main Theatre on Sunday, February 16 at 4:30 pm. Then wrap up the weekend with The Improvised Adventures of Fan Expo on Monday, February 17 at 4 pm! in Theatre #2.

Onstage during Improv Against Humanity on Saturday are William Vaughn, Tia Jeanette, VJ Delos-Reyes, Jacki Gunn, Kai Rudell, and Dan Willows. And on Sunday for Fan Expo Vancouver’s Cosplay Comedy Break is Graeme Duffy, Carrie Hunter, Kai Rudell and Dan Willows. Then on Monday you can laugh along with Brad Duffy, Matthew Simmons, Aida Viziru, Jeff Cooper, and Montana Rosalle

As well as our convention comedy, there are loads of celebrities and special guests to meet at Fan Expo Vancouver this year. Say hello to Bruce Campbell, Christina Ricci, Brendan Fraser, Levar Burton and Marina Sirtis. Plus cast members of The Flash, X-Files, Brian Baumgartner and Oscar Nuñez from The Office, and more will be there! And don’t forget to pick up some fun swag and comic art!

The Fictionals perform with The Anxiety Show on January 5 at Kino Cafe

We kick off the new year with a performance on The Anxiety Show at the Kino Cafe on Sunday, January 5. The talented Megan Phillips gathers some the city’s funniest comedians for Episode 17: F*$% New Years and ALL its Resolutions!

The Anxiety Show is variety-style storytelling, stand-up, and variety-style comedy show. Comedians and open mic audience participants share on a different mental health trigger each episode. Also onstage on January 5 will be Steve Sidi, Simon King, and more to be announced!

Show starts at 8 pm sharp and tickets are by donation. Partial proceeds from Anxiety Show go to support Crisis Centre BC! Invite a friend and come join the fun!

The Anxiety Show was featured on CBC’s The Early Edition, CUTV, Daily Hive Vancouver, and Global News. Past shows covered a variety of subjects, including Addiction, Body Shaming, and even Back To School time.

The Crisis Intervention and Suicide Prevention Centre of BC (Crisis Centre) is a non-profit, volunteer organization. Crisis Centre has provided emotional support to youth, adults and seniors in distress since 1969.  The Crisis Centre is operated by over 425 frontline volunteers and a small team of professional staff. They empower and support individuals to see their own strengths and options. Crisis Centre is ready to help 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
